Name: Hugh Leggat Astrological
Sign: Taurus
Instrument: sexxy
bass, use a 59 Fender jazz, an real old Hofner standup, and my
bullish 66 get outa here Fender precision, oh yeah it doesn't
hurt to have an old Ampeg SVT set up either.
Past musical Tribes:
oh man here we go, first band I was in was the Lords of
London, we hit #1, with 'Cornflakes and Ice-cream'
the summer of love 1967. That band evolved into Nucleus. We recorded our only album in New York City at A&R Studios
Feb '69, where Led Zeppelin did 'Whole lotta Love'.Nucleus evolved into A Foot in Coldwater early
1971. Recorded 4 albums with the boys, yielding the hits 'Make me
do Anything You Want', 'In My Life' and 'Love is
Coming' before splitting up in 1977. Formed Private Eye
with brother Gordie in '78 and released an album in '79. Had a
couple of hits off that album, 'Your Place or Mine', and 'Changes'. |

|
Then me and Gordie came up with the Leggat 'Illuminations'
album in 1980, had a hit off that called 'White Flags'.
Blue Oyster Cult also recorded a version of 'White Flags'
in the mid-1980's. Hallmark Musical
Moments: 'Summer of '69' was out-a-sight, Nucleus
played the Toronto Pop Festival with Dr. John, Blood, Sweat & Tears, and more. Then the Rock n'
Roll Revival '69 with John Lennon, The Doors, Chuck Berry, Little Richard. I was hangin' out
backstage with Nucleus drummer Danny Taylor when the
promoter John Brower asked us to play with Chuck Berry!
When I came off the set Jim Morrison came over and we hung out
backstage, and met everybody...Eric Clapton, Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis, and dig this, Gene Vincent. To top it
off Chuck Berry took us to Harvey's across from
Varsity Stadium and bought me and Danny Taylor, hamburgers n'
cokes. I'll never forget it. First Became
A Hippie: people been callin' me a long
haired hippie freak forever, it just sorta fits, don't it? Favorite Organic Sound:
definitely a Hammond B3. Future Hippie Plans: gotta get this new CD heard, maybe
do another album, or just go to the luv-in with John n' Gordie. |

GENUINE EXCITEMENT
- by Greg Quill/ Toronto Star/
- In joyful acknowledgement of Toronto’s enduring passion for
bedrock Blues, these proudly un-reconstituted Young St. saloon
warriors bring a raw and elemental edge to 10 originals that recall

and James Brown, and pull it off with great authority and,
more importantly, without actually mimicking their mentors....read
